Sunday: four ways to enjoy the day of rest

by Mareen Poeschi

regents canalNo matter how hung over you are from a Saturday night out – it’s a shame to spend Sundays hanging around on the couch and in front of the telly.

London has so many other things on offer.

Explore London

The website derelictlondon.com offers an unusual portrait of London.

The guy who runs the website, Paul Talling, has gathered more than 1,000 photos and published a book.

What makes it interesting is that you can go and explore the sites yourself.

Hidden waterways, ruinous buildings or old bunkers – there are loads of things to discover throughout the city.

Take your camera and some friends along and enjoy the treasure hunt.

Exhibitions

Check out exhibition listings and make your way to a museum.

Whitechapel Gallery at Aldgate East in the East End is a hot tip.

And from there you can still have a stroll through Brick Lane market because it is literally around the corner.

Although major exhibitions do cost a few quid, it is free.

Take a stroll

Go for a walk – Walklondon offers information on walking trails all over the capital.

Users can leave comments on the website, and there is a walk finder where you can enter your preferences and get the walk that suits you best.

In addition to that, Walklondon organises guided walks on various occasions.

Whether around Enfield in the north or Croydon in the south – the marked trails are divided into legs of various lengths.

Even if you don’t have time or are not motivated for one whole trail, you can pop intoa pub alongside the trail (most of them are featured on the website as well as other points of interests such as sights).

Arts and crafts

And as you are already out there, Brixton arts & crafts market is worth a look.

It is open on the first Sunday of every month on Electric Avenue.

At the various stalls designers and artists, mostly from south London are selling their works.
